Matthew Easton recently met with Juris Education to provide helpful advice to aspiring law students. He recounted his journey to law school, highlighting his big setbacks and victories like his full-ride scholarship.
Easton’s motivation for becoming a lawyer stems from the fact that he, “wanted to be a personal injury lawyer, just like my father. As a kid, I just wanted to wear a suit and go to a nice office, like I saw him do each day.”
As Easton recalled his journey as a law student, he said “Had I realized the importance of the LSAT (that it was weighted as high or higher than your college performance), I probably would have put more effort into preparing for it.” Students looking for suitable work experience for law school should take note of this.
Since AI is making splashes in many industries, Easton also talked about AI’s role in law. He thinks that “many applicants are using AI to help prepare the backbone of their personal statements. Be careful here, as that will mean everyone will have very similar bones to their statements. If the point is to stand out, then I would be very wary of doing this and be sure to spend considerable time making sure your first paragraph in particular is very engaging and unique.”
Juris Education launched this series of interviews with noted lawyers to help aspiring and current law students learn from the best. Easton’s candid account of the sacrifices he’s made to reach to become a successful lawyer and co-managing partner.
