A 39-year-old leader of a Bible study group in Southern California has been arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing a child, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities say deputies responded to a call in October that prompted a follow-up investigation. During that investigation, officials allege that the leader, identified as Cameron Taylor Heath, sexually abused a 12-year-old boy several years earlier while serving as the family’s Bible study group leader.

Heath was booked into the Orange County Jail on December 4 on suspicion of committing a lewd and lascivious act with a minor under the age of 14. He posted bail and was released on December 7, according to court records.

OC Bible Study Leader Arrested

Investigators noted that Heath was actively involved in various community and faith-based organizations. Records show he served as a member of Generations Church in Placentia, owned and operated the “Action Kids” youth fitness center from 2010 to 2012, led a Bible study group known as “The Branch,” and was the founder and president of the nonprofit “Deed and Truth Ministries,” which supported orphanages in Baja California, according to ABC7 Los Angeles.

Because of Heath’s prior access to children through these roles, investigators say there could be additional victims and have asked anyone with relevant information to contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Detail.

As with all criminal matters, the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Institutional Safety and Civil Considerations

Allegations of abuse by individuals involved in religious, youth-oriented, or community organizations sometimes raise broader questions about the responsibilities of institutions and supervising entities. In civil law, claims may be considered not only against an individual accused of misconduct, but also against organizations whose hiring, supervision, or reporting practices may have allowed harm to occur.

In California, statutes such as the Child Victims Act permit extended timeframes for certain claims involving childhood sexual abuse, and potential civil actions may proceed independently of criminal charges.
