Police call fatal multiple-car Laguna Beach crash ‘convoluted’

When a serious car accident involved multiple vehicles, it is not always easy to immediately tell who is at fault. In some situations, multiple drivers may have played a role in causing an accident.

Consider an accident that happened last weekend in Laguna Beach. Police say one driver collided with another on Coast Highway. The first driver then crashed into several other vehicles. In total, five people suffered injuries, and a passenger in the first driver’s car was killed. Based on this account of the incident, it seems that the first driver may have been at fault. However, a captain with the Laguna Beach Police Department said the accident is “more convoluted than you would think.”

So far, criminal charges have not been filed against any of the drivers, but police are considering road rage, drugs and alcohol as possibilities as they continue their investigation.

If you are injured or your loved one is killed in a car accident like this, waiting for answers from police can be frustrating. It is important to know, however, that you can start getting answers on your own. Personal injury attorneys are experienced in investigating serious car accidents. And with the help of other experts, it may be possible to find enough evidence to support a personal injury or wrongful death claim.

Even if police never file charges and cannot determine with absolute certainty who was at fault, you may still have a good chance at obtaining compensation for your injuries or loss. In personal injury cases, you must only prove that it is more likely than not that an individual caused an accident. You do not need to prove it beyond a reasonable doubt.
