A good Samaritan who witnessed a local Orange County crash were able to help track down a suspected hit-and-run driver last week. If not for this proactive witness, it is not known if the person who have ever been apprehended for their involvement in a crash involving a pedestrian. According to police, the pedestrian was found lying in the street due to his injuries when he was struck by a vehicle. The crash occurred in the middle of the night, right after bar close.
According to reports, a witness followed the alleged hit-and-run driver back to his residence when he failed to stop after the collision with the pedestrian. He didn’t live too far from the scene of the accident, at the intersection of Dyer Road and the 55 Freeway. The man was arrested, charged with felony DUI and hit and run causing injuries. The collision between the man’s vehicle and the pedestrian occurred on West 19th and Newport Boulevard.
Witnesses have always known to been key to solving car accident cases or being helpful and reliable witnesses on the stand. However, this witness took it one step further and followed an alleged driver back to their residence so that they could be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. This behavior is not encouraged by law enforcement, as this man could have been dangerous. However, the witness’ good deed will not go unnoticed.
While the extent of the pedestrian’s injuries are not yet known from this single car accident, it was said that he was laying in the street and suffering form apparent lacerations and scrapes. It is important to get a full medical assessment after being involved in a collision with a motor vehicle since there could be internal injuries that are not always immediately apparent. Hopefully the man will make a full recovery.
