Safety should be the highest priority for anyone who gets behind the wheel of any kind of vehicle. Most Orange County residents are so accustomed to driving from place to place that it can be easy to forget about the dangers on the roadways. However, serious auto accidents can unfold in the blink of an eye, which is why people must always concentrate on the road and others around them when they are driving.

A recent car accident in California claimed the life of a 46-year-old man. In addition, six other people suffered injuries in the crash. The fatal car accident occurred at roughly 3 a.m. on the westbound side of the 10 freeway, about 45 miles northeast of Orange. The deceased victim was a passenger in one of the cars. Four other people in that car also suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other car and his passenger also suffered minor injuries from the accident.

Accidents like this are all too common on California’s roadways. In many cases, some form of negligence, like distracted driving, leads to the accident. Whether a driver is talking on a cellular phone, playing with the radio or eating while driving, any form of distracted driving can be deadly. Moreover, in accidents that occur early in the morning or late at night, like the one in this case, one of the drivers may have been drowsy while behind the wheel.

Drivers should always operate their vehicles in a manner that does not endanger themselves or other people. So many accidents are avoidable if drivers would just pay attention to the road and follow all traffic laws.

Anyone who suffers an injury due to a negligent driver is entitled to monetary compensation for medical expenses and other damages. Likewise, where an accident results in death, the family of the deceased victim can file a legal action against any driver responsible for causing the fatal crash.

Although driving is almost second-nature for many people, it is too dangerous of an activity to perform while distracted.
