Bicyclist suffers serious injuries in hit-and-run accident

A recent Orange County bicycle accident left an individual seriously injured and police searching for the driver who caused the crash. The victim was severely injured when hit by a tan minivan. According to reports, the bicycle and the minivan were travelling in the same direction when the motor vehicle collided into the bicycle. The bicyclist was taken to the hospital following the accident with severe head injuries. The driver of the minivan failed to stop at the scene of the accident.

A reward has been established for the arrest and conviction of the driver. Witnesses are asked to contact police. In addition to possible criminal penalties a hit-and-run driver may face, a negligent driver may face other consequences as well. A negligent driver may be liable to victims injured by such a driver’s carelessness for the physical, financial, and emotional damages the victim suffered. In order to recover these damages, though, an injured victims must file a personal injury claim.

Damages that the victim of a bicycle accident may be able to recover include compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering damages. Head trauma is something victims of bicycle accidents may suffer, which can be costly and challenging to treat. In circumstances where a negligent driver cannot be found, options may be available to victims through uninsured motorist insurance coverage or underinsured motorist insurance coverage. Whatever the circumstances, it is important for victims to be aware of the options available to them.
