A bus accident on Interstate 405, in the Los Angeles area, left 40 people, including the driver and several passengers on the bus, with injuries. The California bus accident happened in the middle of the day and involved the bus careening into a median after it went out of control. While spinning, the bus also struck at least one other vehicle.

Of those injured, a total of 25 had to be transported to area hospitals. Five victims were listed in critical condition, but at this point, no one has died in connection with this crash. Police kept the highway closed for hours in order to clean up and investigate the crash.

According to one report, a vehicle with a trailer may have caused the accident, although police have yet to confirm as much or identify the driver of that vehicle. Specifically, it appeared that the vehicle, perhaps frustrated by the presence of the bus on the road, cut right in front of the bus, and then hit its brakes. This action forced the bus driver to slam on the brakes, and the sudden stop, in turn, caused the bus to spin out. The vehicle with the trailer did not stop at the scene of the accident.

The general rule is that it is incumbent upon a motorist traveling behind another vehicle to leave enough stopping distance, but this rule does not apply in all cases. In this situation, there is evidence that another driver, possibly because of road rage, made an unsafe maneuver and forced a large bus to spin out of control. If it turns out that is indeed the cause of this motor vehicle accident, this driver may be held legally responsible for this very serious accident.
