When a motorcyclist is fatally wounded by another driver in a traffic accident, survivors have the right to pursue legal action in a wrongful death suit. Family members who lose a loved one may need to speak with an attorney about exercising their rights in the wake of a fatal crash.
Police have arrested a suspect in the hit-and-run accident that took the life of a motorcyclist at the beginning of May. The California Highway Patrol reports that the driver of a truck confessed to striking the motorcyclist and leaving the scene of the accident. The driver now faces charges of hit and run, driving with a suspended license and misdemeanor manslaughter.
The 20-year-old truck driver was traveling southbound on Roseville Road in a GMC Sierra truck when he turned left and entered the oncoming motorcyclist’s lane. The 20-year-old motorcyclist from Fair Oaks crashed into the truck, was ejected from his vehicle and died at the scene of the accident. The driver of the truck continued without stopping to offer assistance or notify the authorities. The accident occurred at around 8:50 p.m. on May 1 near the intersection of Roseville Road and Outlook Drive in Sacramento County.
CHP investigators noted that the truck sustained damage on its right side where the motorcyclist apparently made impact. Police located and arrested the driver on June 4. It is unclear as to whether alcohol or speed was a factor in the crash.
It is possible for authorities to track down and prosecute hit-and-run drivers. It is also possible to hold those drivers responsible for their actions in civil court.
